WHAT TO WEAR
Clothing is a key element for beautiful, timeless portraits. What you wear for your session is the single most important consideration that impacts the overall look and feel of your images, second only to your choice in photographers.
Whether you dress up, dress down, or get totally funky, it is important that you wear what fits your style, what flatters you, what makes you feel comfortable. Here are a couple things to keep in mind when selecting your clothing. First, solid colors work much better than patterns. Bring a variety of colors and mix the level of styles. Some should be dressy, some dressy- casual and some casual. Jeans look fantastic in photos, but make sure they do not have stains or dirt on them. Dark jeans that have a grit to them are always a great choice.
Guys should include a black or dark gray t-shirt to wear under other shirts. White undershirts stick out and photograph poorly. Avoid t-shirts with large graphics or logos, they detract from the main subject, which is you.
Girls should bring accessories that are easy such as hats, scarves, sweaters and jewelry, if you wear it. And, oh yeah, don’t forget chapstick or lip gloss (chapped lips are hard to photoshop).
PREPARING FOR THE SHOOT
Please come prepared. Being well prepared for your senior photo session can make the difference between average and fabulous images. Follow these easy tips and you’ll be well on your way to looking your best.
Bring A LOT of options, I give you unlimited wardrobe changes. The more clothes we have to choose from, the better. This will give us flexibility in matching your clothing to backgrounds and location choices. Group your clothing together on hangers. Make sure items are free of wrinkles and ready to go. (Please don’t come with everything stuffed in a bag.)
Guys, please come to your session cleanly shaven. Retouching stubble is not easy. If you have facial hair that your mom despises, do her a favor and shave it off. It will grow back and your mother will be very appreciative you did this for her.
Girls, please come with your make up and hair finished. I recommend thinking of a couple easy ways to style your hair. You might want to try a few out before your shoot. If you want to feel pampered, you might even go to have your hair and make up done for you. If you want to feel pampered, you can have your hair and makeup professionally done for you (professional hair and make up are not included). You will only be a senior once.
If you see something you like via your friends, magazine, pinterest, please email it to me so I can help you with it.
I have a pinterest board for seniors if you need any ideas.

THE PHOTO SHOOT
“How will I know where to meet you at the location? you ask. Be on the look out, you will receive a confirmation email a couple of days before your session with the exact location and time. In addition, I will text you when I am there and let you know my whereabouts.
My style of photography is both casual and natural. I feel the best images are taken when you are less aware and posed in front of the camera. Of course it is not an easy task to forget about the camera, and that is where my professional expertise comes in handy. When we begin your shoot, I will direct you to look and pose certain ways, but in an easy unassuming way--mostly while in conversation. Sometimes I will show you how I want you to stand or sit and then continue with the conversation. Remember, the session is for you and I will make sure you have the absolute best images, so if you want to be quiet, loud or even silly, then that’s how it will go. I aim to capture you!
FRIENDS & FAMILY
“Can I bring a couple friends or family members?” Yes. Friends or parents are welcome and often can be very helpful. However, if they distract you, it may be best to meet them when the session is over or have them wait in the car. You are welcome to have a couple of shots with a friend, sibling or parent at no extra charge. They can meet you at one or all locations.
If you have not scheduled your in-home consulation, please do so. If you live out of town, we can Skype. The consultation is important because this is where you will be viewing your images for the first time either in the comforts of your home or mine and it is also when you will place your order. You only order what YOU LOVE so don't worry there is no pressure. Try to schedule it 14 days out from your photo shoot. While you are waiting for your appointment, I will be processing and editing your images to prefection. At the consultation, I will help you choose the right prints and products that will make the most impact on your walls and the most sense for your family. If you are in town, I will bring samples and my Ipad (it has a specially designed app that will allow you to see your images on your wall). WOW!! Oh, and I will bring along some yummy treats so let me know if you have any dietary restrictions or have any favorites you’d like.
The best part...your order will be ready for you 14 days after your consultation, with the exception of canvases and albums. Those items require 4 to 6 weeks in production.
